Gdy LucasArts bierze się za grę poświęconą tematyce Gwiezdnych Wojen, można być niemal pewnym, że będzie to produkt najwyższej klasy. Problem z Dark Forces polegał jednak na tym, że o ile firma tworzyła jedyne w swoim rodzaju i rozpamiętywanie po dziś dzień gry przygodowe, tak z produktami FPS miała raczej mizerne doświadczenia. Na dodatek program, będący niczym innym jak klonem Dooma, nie został oparta o jego engine. Autorzy najwyraźniej stwierdzili, że lepiej będzie, jak strukturę Dark Forces sami napiszą od podstaw. Przyszłość pokazała, że mieli stuprocentową rację.
